A Brain Canada Platform Support Grant enabled Dr. Deborah Kurrasch (University of Calgary) to develop MitoREAD, a patented drug discovery technology targeting mitochondrial dysfunction — found consistently across epilepsy, ALS, autism, and more — spawning two spin-off companies and millions in follow-on funding.

Approximately 65 million people worldwide are affected by epilepsy – a debilitating neurological disorder. Brain Canada-funded researchers are committed to finding better solutions for those touched by the disorder, including patients who suffer from a drug-resistant form of the disease.
